Portfolio:

Hi, we are CrystalMesh, an independent game studio based in Trier, Germany. Founded in 2020 we are currently developing our third person action adventure game “How To Catch A Firefly”.

All three of us have studied intermedia design with a focus on game design and we all have a bachelor of arts degree. During our studies, we had the opportunity to gain insight into every area of game development. And while we have ultimately found our specialities, keeping an interest and knowledge about all the parts necessary to make a game has always made a positive impact on our final products.

This portfolio contains some impressions from our own projects and some examples of work for clients we have done.

Our Projects

How To Catch A Firefly

How To Catch A Firefly is a cozy 3D platformer set in an enchanting world. With the help of our lovable and stubborn Nimmi, you solve puzzles, catch fireflies and prove your dexterity to ensure that this year’s Festival of Lights can take place again.

The video below shows a demo build of our prototype phase.

With the exception of the water shader, its boat asset and sounds, we haven’t used any assetpacks or external plugins. Everything within How To Catch A Firefly is created entirely by us. Assets, textures, animations, gameplay systems, shaders and so on.

The Last Premiere

The Last Premiere is a 3d action platformer and it was the very first game we developed as a company. At that time we were still figuring out were we wanted to go as game developers and the game needs quite a bit of love before we can release it. Due to the main programmer leaving it is currently on hold until we have converted all code into our new blueprint pipeline.

In The Last Premiere we tried to work out an artstyle and pipeline for our newly founded studio. For this purpose, most of the assets and systems are made by us with only a limited number of external assets and plugins like a few rocks and some quality of life plugins like the Easy Multisave plugin or the articy:draft X Importer.

Client Work

ARGO – Augmented Archeology

Since 2020, we have been collaborating with the University of Trier and the startup ARGO Edutainment Solutions GmbH on educational AR projects focused on the reconstruction of historical buildings. These projects aim to make these buildings accessible and experienceable both regionally and beyond.

Romea and Julio

In 2021, we had the opportunity to collaborate with the Theater Solingen under the direction of director Andreas Schäfer to create a child-friendly game remake of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, which playfully addresses the theme of gender diversity. The concept for the game “Romea and Julio,” based on Mr. Schäfer’s idea and written and developed by us, was awarded the “Förderpreis Digitale Dramaturgie“ in 2020. The game was developed in Unity and optimized to be played directly on the Theaters website. We only had three weeks to realize this project so we had to use an asset pack for the environment but the characters, animations and everything else was made by us.
